Jack O' Lanterns

Originated for an Irish myth. A man named Jack tricked the devil and part of the bargain was that he would leave Jack alone for 1 year and if Jack died the devil would not claim his soul. After the 1 year Jack tricked the devil again this time the devil would not bother Jack for 10 years. Jack passed away and as the devil promised he did not claim Jacks soul. Unfortunately for Jack God didn't claim Jacks soul either because of his trickery. So Jack was forced to wonder the darkness of purgatory. The devil gave Jack a burning coal from hell which Jack made a lantern and placed the coal in. He used it to guide himself through purgatory. The Irish and Scots began to make their own lanterns from turnips and potatoes. They believed that the scary faces would frighten wandering spirits away. Pumpkin Jack O' Lanterns were not popular until these cultures came to the United States where pumpkins are abundant and make great lanterns.

Unfortunately I don't think Brooke's Jack O' Lanterns and my Jack O' Lanterns from last year really scared any spirits away hahaha.

Sharing Birthdays

Both of my grandmothers birthdays are in July, same as me. Mawmaw (my dads mom) is July 18th, mine is July 23rd, and Gmommy (my moms mom) is July 28th. So over the years we have celebrated together a few times.
Gmommy & I on my first B-day

My first birthday was a great one and everyone was so happy that I even made it that far. lol.On mothers day just a few months before my birthday we were visiting Gmommy and Gdaddy. It was time to eat and I was in my highchair chanting for a hotdog. I then stood up in my highchair which of course is never a good thing. As you can imagine it fell backwards and I along with it. Now as bad as a toddler falling out of their highchair sounds mine gets worse because I fell into Gmommys bowfront china cabinet. I took out one of the glass doors, several of the shelves, and plenty of dishes and glasses all with my head. They say I layed perfectly still on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. They thought I was dead. Everyone was in shock until I started screaming! My mom was frantic of course and my dad well he couldn't even come in the kitchen. hahaha. Mom, Gmommy and my Aunt Darlene got me in the car. They got into a short argument about getting me a hotdog to make me stop crying. Someone finally gave me a hotdog and sure enough I stopped crying. lol. They rushed me off to the hospital where I got some stitches in several places on my head. Gdaddy and my dad had to stay at the house until my dad could calm down. lol. To this day I still have 2 scars on my head where no hair grows from where I fell.

Mawmaw and I celebrating our birthdays together.

Also lucky I got made it to this bday too. hahaha When I was 2 we we went to a bday party for a cousin of mine at chucky cheese. When the adults looked at me and noticed my lips were turning blue they rushed me to the hospital. I was having an ashama attack and spent a few days in the hospital. It is actually the earliest memory that I have.(more detailed story of it in this past post earliest memory)

Turtle Lamp

I made this lamp for my cousin Jared's little boy. He is a month old. It was my baby present to them. They live in a beautiful plantation style house with a creek that runs thru the front yard (actually the same creek that runs thru Gmommys back yard). Jared has always loved turtles and they have many that live in the creek. So I made them a turtle lamp for the baby room. I really love how it turned out and they love it too which just makes me all that more happy about it.

When do we let people take responsibility for their incompetence

News report about Tylenol

People are not only suing the company for those who have been injured or died from taking too much tylenol they are also trying to get the FDA to require tylenol to lower the dosage of each pill.

Tylenol of course claiming they shouldn't be held liable because it says on the bottle what the ingredients are and how much the recommended dosage is. If people choose to ignore it that is their choice. People who are asking the FDA to reduce the dosage  of their reasoning being that some people don't read the listing on the back of the bottle. So to help remedy the problem tylenol is now writing on the cap of the bottle "contains acetaminophen" "always read the label" in red print.

I just wonder when do we let people just suffer the consequences of their stupid decisions. If you're not going to read the instructions on medication before you take it then it's your fault when you suffer from not taking it properly.  There are tooo many things in the world today that we have set rules, regulations and laws for that are just plain ridiculous. Things that are there to assist people who obviously lack common sense. I feel like because of these laws we might be getting in the way of natural selection. lol. Is it true that if it weren't for so many rules and laws about such absurd things a lot of people would probably have died and will die. I think Yes. But who's to say they shouldn't. Do we really need people who are stupid enough to O.D. on tylenol walking around teaching our children, cooking our food, leading our world, PROCREATING! Do we want those genes to continue on. Pretty soon our future generations are going to lack all common sense. Then will we be? I'm sure I'll be dead by then but it's happening pretty fast. I am amazed almost daily at the crazy things that happen in our world simple because someone lacked some common sense.

And that is enough of my ranting for now lol.
